MSU School of Packaging 2.0: Expanding Our Capacity, Advancing Our Impact

MSU School of Packaging 2.0: Expanding Our Capacity, Advancing Our Impact

As the world’s largest and No. 1-ranked packaging program, the MSU School of Packaging (SoP) is defined by an unmatched legacy of excellence. Founded in 1957, we have shaped every aspect of the global packaging industry.

  • First: The nation’s first independent school of packaging with a four-year curriculum
  • Best: The No. 1-ranked packaging program worldwide
  • Only: The only Ph.D. packaging program in the U.S.

By the Numbers

  • 600+ undergraduate and graduate students
  • 10,000+ alumni worldwide
  • 40% of all packaging professionals in the U.S. are SoP alumni

We’ve earned global distinction through excellence in education, high-impact research and industry engagement. We’re proud of our history but focused on what’s next.

PACKAGING REIMAGINED

The Packaging 2.0 expansion will nearly double the size of our current facility, transforming teaching and research environments to meet the evolving needs of students, faculty and industry. This expansion will include:

  • Flexible, technology-enabled classrooms built for
    collaboration
  • Shared laboratory spaces supporting cross-
    disciplinary research
  • Expanded lab and administrative space to grow
    our research enterprise

THE FUTURE IS NOW.

With this expansion, we will:

  • Develop the packaging workforce of the future
  • Grow faculty and graduate student capacity
  • Advance sustainability and high-impact industry
    research

POWERED BY PARTNERSHIPS

Additional philanthropic investment is needed to bring this bold vision to life. Naming opportunities are available across the existing building and the expansion.

KEY NAMING OPPORTUNITIES

  • First Floor, building addition — $5M
  • Shared laboratory spaces — $1–2M each
  • New classroom space — $1.5M
  • Graduate student spaces and faculty offices —
    $50-$100k

Shape the future of packaging by becoming a space naming partner and benefit priority access to future industry leaders, educators and researchers.

“Your support for Packaging 2.0 will help us create a true hub for innovation, bringing together top minds from industry and academia around the world. Here, ideas will move faster, partnerships will grow stronger and the future of packaging will take shape.”
– Matt Daum, MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources dean and associate provost
