Prosise named ELATES Fellow in national leadership program

Jodi Prosise

Dr. Jodi Prosise, assistant dean of the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science and chair of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at University of Wisconsin-Platteville, has been selected for the Class of 2022-2023 of Drexel University’s Executive Leadership in Academic Technology, Engineering and Science (ELATES) program. The ELATES program is a national leadership development program designed to promote women in academic STEM fields, and faculty allies of all genders, into institutional leadership roles.

The Class of 2022-2023 ELATES Fellows is a prestigious cohort of 30 faculty members from over 25 institutions of higher education across the U.S. and Canada. The ELATES Fellows include experts in engineering, mathematics and science, all of whom have significant administrative experience on top of their scholarly accomplishments. Prosise was nominated by senior leadership for this intensive, yearlong program, which includes eight to 10 hours per week of personal and leadership development work as well as three series of on-site work in the Philadelphia area.

Prosise is an expert in engineering education, biomedical engineering, and mechanical engineering and has more than seven years of experience in leadership and administration in academia at multiple institutions. She has experience starting up new undergraduate engineering programs, obtaining ABET accreditation, fundraising, and development of industry partnerships.

“My first week at the ELATES program at Drexel was intense and life-changing,” said Prosise. “I learned more about myself and others than I ever thought possible. I’m excited to continue to learn in this way so that I can be the best leader I can possibly be. I am grateful to my mentors at UW-Platteville for their support of my participation in this program.”

Facilitated by leaders in the fields of STEM research and leadership development, the ELATES curriculum is focused on increasing fellows’ personal and professional leadership effectiveness, from the ability to lead and manage change initiatives within institutions, to the use of strategic finance and resource management to enhance organizational missions. Pairing online instruction and discussion with intensive, in-person seminar sessions, the program encourages fellows to apply what they’ve learned at their home institutions. Ultimately, it aims to create a network of exceptional faculty who bring broad organizational perspectives and deep personal capacity to the institutions and society they serve.

Dr. Sharon Walker, executive director of the ELATES program and dean of Drexel University’s College of Engineering, shares her excitement for welcoming the newest class of Fellows.

“I am thrilled to welcome this talented new cohort of ELATES fellows as they join the community of distinguished alumnae who are committed to lifelong learning and leadership development. I am excited to see what impact they will not only have this year on their home campuses, but more broadly to the higher education STEM community in the future.”

GBIG NEWS September Issue: Innovation in Wisconsin

Marty Ochs

As I look back at reports from June 17, 2013, it stated that the Wisconsin economy is old-growth industries and why does Wisconsin have such a slow-growth economy. Wisconsin, it says, is powered mainly by manufacturing industries that often date back more than a century. The State lacks in innovation and technology. The study called The Wisconsin Economic Future Study. It reports in the age of Google and the iPad, three of Wisconsin’s Five largest sectors are related to paper, converting and printing.

Well today, with the exception of the printing paper industry in Wisconsin, the Printing, Converting, Packaging and supporting manufacturing industries are world leaders in innovation. We have two upcoming events supporting our industries and the impact on Wisconsin. 1. The Printing Showcase will bring in companies from across the USA and International companies to demonstrate innovative products for the 5P, Converting and supporting Manufacturing Industries. Why, Wisconsin is the CENTER of the 5P, Converting and the Supporting Manufacturing in the United States!

In addition, The Greater Green Bay Chamber and the Wisconsin Paper Council will host the Italian Foreign Direct Investment Luncheon on September 19, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Badger State Brewing Company. Italian Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is the second largest source of international investment in Greater Green Bay. Wisconsin Economic Summit is in Appleton September 20 – 21. Finally, we have Manufacturing First Returns to Green Bay at the Resch Expo on October 26th from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

A very interesting fact, Wisconsin has a large budget surplus supported by our world class manufacturing industries with one of the lowest unemployment in the United States. Wisconsin has world class Universities with a great emphasis on Engineering, Technology and Sciences. I see a very bright future for the Wisconsin economy and it is time to tout our successes to the world!

Unilux introduces NEW VISION SYSTEM

UniPRINT features superb image quality and touchscreen operation for better quality control.

Saddle Brook, NJ Unilux, the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of stroboscopic inspection solutions, has just announced the UniPRINT inspection system for printers seeking to protect their reputation for quality.

Unilux printing machine

UniPRINT is a highly capable print monitoring system offering similar features to comparable vision systems at a more affordable price. The most significant innovation of this system comes in the responsive service and support. Until now, entry-level print monitoring systems would sit idle on presses due to lack of training or system component failure. Re-training of operators and repair of older systems was cost- and time-prohibitive. To address these needs, Unilux will provide regional service and support, replacement parts in stock for fast delivery, as well as easy to access online training to ensure that operators are empowered to use the full capabilities of the system.

“For decades Unilux inspection strobes have complemented web monitoring systems by offering a macro view of print quality,” said Mike Simonis, President. “We are excited to expand our inspection offering by also providing the more detailed micro view, with all of the features you would expect to reduce waste, backed by the service and support only Unilux can provide.”
